Wow, getting that first post out took most of an afternoon. Instead of posting again, I’ve been playing with the guts of this thing and I understand themes a little better and look — I even got rid of that awful blue blob that was the default header. The new header will do until I get something more personal.
How come I waited so long to do this? This is fun.
Onward….
I blocked my latest lace stole this weekend.

Pattern: Japanese Feather Stole from Knitspot
Yarn: Rowan Kidsilk Night, shade 610, Starry Night (black with silver glints) (67% mohair, 18% silk, 10% polyester, 5% nylon). About 2.5 skeins. Very dressy.
Needles: Size 7 US Crystal Palace bamboo
Final size blocked: 19″ by 70″. I didn’t measure it before blocking, but I don’t think it grew much. I knit the 11 repeats called for. Next time, I’d make it longer.
Satisfaction index: Umm. Okay. Maybe 3 out of 5.
Notes: The pattern is easy to knit and would be good for beginners. I was surprised there wasn’t a chart to work from when I purchased the PDF. I ended up making my own because I never work lace from written instructions. It’s too difficult to keep my place.
But. This is the second stole/shawl I’ve knit with laceweight mohair and I’m trying to figure out the attraction. Kidsilk Haze is lovely to look at in the ball, the colors are great and they shout “reach out and pet me”. But knitting with it? Not so much. And then you have to really block it to get the stitch definition to show. It feels hot and I don’t mean that in a good way.
The mohair sheds like a cat in spring.
I like the pattern and I’m considering knitting it again in a smooth yarn. Maybe as soon as I finish a few other things.
