It seems like all I’m knitting these days is lace. That, and socks. I have beaucoup (that’s pronounced “buttloads” for those of you who don’t speak knitter) stash that’s mellowing, but if it’s not laceweight it doesn’t come out of the bins.
I’m about 100 rows away from finishing Hanami from Pink Lemon Twis
t. I’m debating how I’m going to finish it: with or without the ruffle edge. Time will tell.
In my version, I’ve added clear silver lined beads to random yarnovers. Like the glint of rain drops on petals. If you squint real hard at this incredibly bad photo, you can see the beads. I started adding them when I got past the basketweave chart. At first I put 18 rows between the beads, than 12, then 10 and now I’m down to 8 rows in between. I’ll keep reducing the number of rows as I get closer to the bind off. Since there are more yarn overs toward the end of the shawl, the number of beads per row is also increasing. I can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s blocked.
I just received an invitation for a September wedding in Vermont and I’ve decided I need a new stole to wear. The Hanami is too delicate and summery for the venue — on a rock by a secluded lake in the Northeast Kingdom. I’m thinking of a different kind of stole, a little heavier, in a dark color, in a simple lace pattern that’s more appropriate for wool pants and cashmere sweaters. I’m open to suggestions if anyone’s got a favorite. Just no triangle shawls. I like them long and rectangular. For now, I’m searching Ravelry and my library of lace books.
So maybe some fingering or DK will make it out of stash purgatory this summer after all.
Or maybe I’ll just wear Mountain Pines. We’ll see.
