Booties and sox

Hmm, by the looks of the recent posts you’d think I’d been slacking off on the knitting. But there are a few more things in the FO pile. To wit:

stay on bootiesStay-on baby booties
The pattern is in Knitting Tips and Trade Secrets – an excellent book that I’ve had for years. I’ve knit this pattern before and it’s a kick in the pants. You cast on and before you know it, bam, there’s a completed bootie.  Great grab-and-go knitting.

I used some miscellaneous Koigu that’s been in the stash for years for these but the ball band has been lost. Needle size is US 2. There are two more pairs of booties in the works, another with more Koigu and a third with sock leftovers. I think I’ll start making a pair of these every time I make socks since I always have sock yarn left over. They’re good to have on hand, especially since there seems to be a bumper crop of babies this year.

Further to wit:

Kaffe Fasset Stripe SocksStandard Top Down Socks
The yarn is Regia’s Landscape 4 Ply Color in Caribbean designed by Kaffe Fassett, 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon. Needle sizes: US 1 for the cuff and US 0 for the leg and foot.

I like this yarn. If feels solid, yet soft on your feet. It worked up great, the stripes were just the right width and the colors are fun. I need to go buy more. I believe I cast on my standard 64 stitches then dropped to 60 stitches for the leg. The pattern is k4, p2 down the leg and foot with an eye of partridge heel. The stripes match pretty close which is good enough for me.

Nothing fancy, just everyday socks that will get a lot of wear this winter.

Still on the needles is a pair of Cookie A’s Monkey socks. I must be the last knitter on the Internet to cast on for these. I like the pattern and it’s gotten me interested in other sock patterns more adventurous than my standard k4, p2. Time to stick my foot out (ahem) and explore.

Hanami continues anon. I have about 50 more rows before getting to the ruffle. Adding beads every 8 – 10 rows slows me down but I’m liking the look.
