Random Wednesday

Good lord what happened? Three days went by in a flash even though I don’t have much to show for it. I feel random this morning so that’s what you get.

How I know fall is coming:

  1. The produce at the farmers’ market is changing. Fewer farmers have tomatoes and corn and more are selling watermelon, winter squash and early fall apples.
  2. Last night I ate Campbell’s tomato soup with lots of black pepper and crackers for the first time since April.
  3. It was dark when I got up at 6:00 am. It was still dark when I got up a second time at 6:30 am.
  4. This morning I had to change from shorts and flip flops to sweat pants and wool socks because I was cold (it’s 56 degrees F, 13 degrees C). I chose the thickest pair of socks I own. And just added a long-sleeve fleece pullover. Wuss.
  5. The freezer is beginning to look less like a cold white coffin waiting for a body and more like an overly-industrious squirrel has been hoarding more than nuts. It’s stuffed with local meat and chicken, blueberries, zucchini, tomatoes and pesto. I still need to make applesauce but not for another month. There are a mixed dozen of pork and chicken tamales I bought at the market last weekend. And of course, at least 4 kinds of dessert and too much breakfast pastry for Jack.
  6. I bought 3 chrysanthemums yesterday.
  7. I’m considering getting the under-desk heater out of storage; I’m still cold.

Maybe it’s time to go back to oatmeal for breakfast.

Knitting
I can see the end of the Eris cardigan. I’ve redone the sleeves except for the hems. I’ve ripped and knit the bottom third of the body and finished the left cable shaping. I’ll start the right cable shaping today and might actually get this finished by the weekend. I’m working from two alternating balls of yarn so the color variation has been minimized. Then it’s time to tackle the zipper.

The Labyrinth shawl gets worked on in odd moments, it’s actually an easy knit and I’m enjoying the yarn and the whole project. Even though I’m up to row 150 out of 460, I’m not really a third of the way through because the rows are still increasing. No rush to finish this, it’s easy to pick up and work as I have time.

I’ve started a pair of socks for my step daughter Carrie using some Tofutsies that she picked out when we were together in Portland this summer. They’ll be my travel knitting in September and I should be able to finish these before it turns too cold in Oregon. The yarn is splitty but feels good to work with. It’s color 740 and when I’m feeling more ambitious I’ll take a picture of the sock. I believe it’s a 2007 color that’s not produced anymore, not that I care.

I’m decided my next project will be the Museum Sweater (Ravelry link) from Little Badger Knitwear. I have a sizable stash of Elann’s Den-N-Mit denim yarn that I’ve never used and a baby-size sweater is a good place to start, yes? There are a bumper crop of babies either just born or only a few months away so I won’t have any problem finding a recipient.

100 push ups challenge
I’m still pushing up. Before our latest trip I had started week 5 but since I went 10 days without doing a lick of exercise except lifting a fork, I’ve dropped back to week 4 and even that was tough. The scales told me this morning that I’ve reached my personal weight crisis so I need to get away from this computer and out walking.

Ta.
