Happily ever after

The Newlyweds

The Newlyweds

Morgan and Jon got married last weekend in a little chapel in Vermont filled with their friends and family. Jon’s Dad performed the ceremony and the reception followed on a hillside owned by Morgan’s Dad, my brother. The day started overcast and misty, but the weather gods relented and while the sun didn’t shine, the rain cleared and the temperatures warmed up so children could play and adults could shed their coats.

Overlooking the valley

This is the view from the hillside where the reception was held. The foliage hadn’t peaked yet but there was plenty of color to feast upon. In another week or so, this hillside will turn even more vibrant with only spots of evergreen as counterpoint.

An amazing amount of work went into pulling off a dinner reception for more than 250 people on top of a mountain with no running water, no electricity and no buildings. But really, with a view like that, anything seems possible.

So, a tent was rented, a caterer was hired and the wedding party was organized right down to video of the bride and groom as children and the ring bearer’s baseball mitt and cap.

My brothers brought Rangers (which they sell) to shuttle people up and down the hill to their cars. These were so much fun that people were inventing reasons to go back down to their cars just to get a chance to drive them. The keys passed hands so many times it was like a game of “button, button who’s got the button.”

Need a ride?

You might expect a line of Blue Bowls since there was no running water or electricity. Instead there was a spiffy clean trailer with hot water and flush toilets. I took a picture, but it was just a boring white trailer so I deleted it.

The little house

This? This is just my family’s sense of humor. Gotta love it. It’s been in this field for years.

Everybody was on their best behavior (well there was one little dog bite, but hey, family traditions are family traditions). When we left, the dance floor was crowded and I’m sure the party lasted well into the wee hours. It was a great way to welcome Jon into the family.

Lots more to the weekend, but this is long enough. I wish all the best for Morgan and Jon.
