First, I forgot to mention that Sandy gave me the answer to Tuesday’s question about who first said “an army moves on its stomach”. It was Napoleon which I actually didn’t know until I googled it. There’s some political swag on it’s way to Sandy. Thanks for playing!
We had our weekly neighborhood team meeting last night to iron out more of the working details for Election Day.
An aside: I keep capitalizing Election Day, even though I don’t know if stylistically it should be. In my mind it’s just like an upcoming holiday because of all the planning and anticipation. Soon! No more Bush and Cheney! Better than presents under the tree. So it gets a capital E and a capital D here.
Back from the side: The meeting was only the second one we’ve had as a combined team and things went more smoothly than before. Everybody is more comfortable in their roles. I have to bite my tongue because I want to organize everything and some of it can’t be organized until other details are worked out. Like a staging location.
Yeah, we still don’t have one of those. Supposedly there’s a lease being signed at the national headquarters which should arrive today. We move in at 9 am Saturday and the first GOTV canvass volunteers arrive an hour later.
Once we know the location I can work out the routes to the polling places for our precincts for the comfort team and poll drivers. Um, the precincts we’re covering? Those keep changing as well.
No matter, I’m confident it will all fall together. Heh.
All this activity is helping me to NOT focus on the polls. As kmkat (go see the video on her site) said in yesterday’s comments, the polls are tightening and the election can’t come too soon. Obama had a slight lead (verrry slight) in Missouri a week ago and now it looks like the lead might be slipping back to McCain. Some web sites had Missouri leaning toward Obama, but now it’s back in the toss up column.
In the meantime the weather forecast for Election Day is warm but with a chance of thunderstorms. Get out the trash bags.
On another note: the header is bugging the bejesus out of me. The blooming rose feels really out of season, like wearing white after Labor Day. I’m itching to change it but first I have to get my head out of politics. Soon.

My husband and I are pleased to have added two Obama voters to the population. Although the older one may vote for Cynthia McKinney; he lives in NYC, and that state is solidly for Obama, so he has that luxury.
If you want to feel reassured, go to http://www.realclearpolitics.com and look at the electoral college map. Start clicking to change various states to McCain. In order for him to win in the electoral college, all the tossup states have to go to him, plus he has to turn Ohio or some other big state from solid blue to red, plus perhaps some other changes. (I did this yesterday and I don’t remember exactly what-all I had to do.) The point is, an extremely unlikely number of things have to go his way for him to win in the EC. Let’s just hope that Joe Stalin’s words (“What matters is who counts the votes.”) do not apply…
