8641 people on Ravelry have started and/or finished this shawl/scarf before I got around to it. It’s one of the most frequently knit patterns that I’ve ever seen. Now that I’ve finally caved and knit my own I understand why.
It’s fun. It’s easy. It’s good traveling knitting, enough detail to stay interesting, but not complicated. It’s one of those patterns that can be personalized. It works with many different yarns, in all weights. Make it as narrow or as wide as you want. Make it a shawl or a scarf. Add a fringe or beads or just leave it alone.
I’ll make another smaller one as a scarf next time I need travel knitting.
Pattern: Clapotis by Kate Gilbert
Yarn: Filaro Illusion 10 ply, amethyst, 42% wool, 28% mohair, 27% rayon, 3% nylon. Each skein is 208 yards and I used about 2.5 skeins
Needles: Addi Turbos U.S. size 8
Blocked Dimensions: 21 inches wide by 72 inches long. It grew at least a foot when it was blocked.
Notes: This is a good winter shawl, although it probably should have been made a little wider and not as long. I may dress up the edges a little. I have plenty of yarn left so I could crochet an edging, add some tassels or just leave it alone. Because of the mohair boucle in this yarn I had to work to get the stitches to ladder down. I probably spent an hour or two doing this. The first time you drop a stitch it seems so daring; towards the end, not so much.

Love it! I have the yarn for one….maybe after the holidays. Remember me?? Miss you, hope to see you Tuesday. Kathy
