At last I have another project off the needles. I never intended for these to take so long. I cast on in late August and thought I’d have them done in September but too many other projects kept getting in the way. I bow to those knitters who start a pair of socks today and finish them in a week or even a day or two. That will never be me baby.
The pic above is a much better rendering of the colors, although now I see I over saturated the pink a little. These are for my stepdaughter Carrie. She picked out the yarn when I dragged her into the Yarn Garden during our visit to Portland last summer. I hope they fit her.
I’m trying to clear up outstanding projects before the new year. In some cases it’s a matter of doing the finishing. In others, like these socks, it’s a matter of applying myself.
Yarn: Tofutsies, Color 740 which was a 2007 limited edition release. 50% Superwash Wool 25% SOYSILK® brand fiber, 22.5% Cotton 2.5% Chitin (made from shrimp and crab shells!)
Yardage: 425m / 100g ball
Needles: US size 0
Gauge: don’t know, but I cast on 72 stitches
Pattern: My basic k4, p2 for leg, extending into the foot. The foot is 9 inches long as is the leg and there’s still plenty of yarn left over.
Notes: Using the same ball of yarn, the colors in one sock spiraled, but not in the other. I can’t figure out why this would be but it isn’t objectionable, at least to me. I like the colors and have another ball of this yarn that I’ll use for a pair for me. It is a splitty yarn so it can get annoying towards the end when you’re over your initial enthusiasm. I’d still use it again.
Tomorrow I’m going to sew together my version of the Museum sweater, and then do the final prep work: measure/photograph/wash/shrink/measure/photograph. I can’t wait to see how much this denim yarn shrinks. This is a gift for a baby who is due any minute, so the timing is just right.
Now I’m off to do a little reading, a little knitting and early to bed.

Can’t wait to see that denim all knit up in that sweater. I’m curious about the shrinkage as well.
