Do wake up with Plans to enjoy the best Saturday in months: a beautiful pink sunrise and promises of warm temperatures.
Don’t chase down your cat by tackling her with a flying leap. You’ll land knee first on the deck, causing the stars to come out even though it’s 8 o’clock in the morning. For a moment you’ll seriously consider whether passing out wouldn’t be a good thing. Then suck it up and get moving.
Do wish you’d reconsidered when a few minutes later you hear a loud shattering noise from the garage.
Don’t swear when you discover that your husband has tried to drive out of the garage with the tailgate open on the van.
Do marvel at the clear view out of the rear window that is no more and admire the sunlight reflecting off the millions of pieces of safety glass scattered far and wide. And how the bent garage door doesn’t look all that bad. No, really.
Don’t be surprised when your husband won’t share your point of view.
Do try to be an environmentally responsible citizen by loading two old TVs into the trunk of the other car to drive 25 miles one-way to a recycling event sponsored by the local public television station. For $10 a piece they’ll take these albatrosses from around your neck and out from under your stairs. (Is that a mixed metaphor? Sue me.)
Don’t forget to check the station’s website before leaving home to learn the event has been canceled because the recycling company just went out of business.
Do decide to make your husband feel better by offering to drive to his favorite cafe and bakery for lunch and dessert. Even though it’s 50 miles in the other direction, you do think it would make the day go a little better.
Don’t fail to act surprised when he asks if you plan to visit the lovely yarn store in the same town.
Do admit it might take your mind off your knees and the shattered rear window and the trunk full of dead TVs.
Don’t skimp on the breads and the desserts.
Carbs are known to make you feel better.
(My tiramisu didn’t photograph well, but it was yummy.)
Do resist all the pretty-pretty yarns at the Yarn Barn, including skeins and skeins of alpaca laceweight.
Don’t forget you have three pairs of socks out of commission and give in to two balls of new-to-you sock yarn.
Do decide not to push your luck further and go home early to meditate on what the universe was trying to teach you today.
I’ll let you know when I figure it out.

Such a day you had! Hope tomorrow is better. (although what could possibly be better than the baked goods and the sock yarn?)
What a day! Sorry about your knee and the van. I was teaching at the Yarn Barn in the morning then went to Weaver’s just after noon. I should have gone around the corner to Wheatfields to say hello.
Let me know how you like knitting with the bamboo. What a great color.
