As eventful as yesterday was, today the universe took pity on us and dialed it down a notch. Nothing exploded, no body parts were injured and the major calamity was burning my English muffin at breakfast. I had to share part of Jack’s cinnamon roll. Darn.
In the face of all this peacefulness, I got my act together to wash and photograph the first two hats I’ve knit for charity. These are both made with Brown Sheep’s Lamb’s Pride Superwash, worsted weight. The color is fairly true in these pictures.
The first cap is just a 4 x 4 watch cap that I made up. Knit until I couldn’t stand it anymore, did some rapid decreases and finished it off. I’m thinking the top needs some embellishment, but will settle that later.
The second cap is from Charlene Schurch’s Hats On! It’s the Turkish Pattern Cap. I added an off-white Plymouth Encore for the second color.
I enjoyed learning how to do the herringbone braid at the edge although it refuses to lay flat for me. And I should have paid a little more attention to the row gauge because the hat turned out deeper than called for. But it’s all good. Whoever ends up with it can be sure that her ears won’t be cold.
I’m half finished with Hat #3, another made up design. I figure I’ll keep at this until the Lamb’s Pride is gone, probably 2 or 3 more hats. I’m playing with some stranded patterns to design the next hat, so we’ll see what comes of that.
Not very exciting first projects for 2009, but useful. Must root around behind the couch and see what’s lurking that needs to be finished next.
Sunday Supper
Tonight’s dinner was meatless with spinach-cheese stuffed shells, salad and one of the French rolls that we picked up yesterday. Messy to make, but I cleaned the kitchen while the shells baked so it didn’t seem so bad. It makes an incredible amount of food even though I only made half a recipe. I know what we’ll be eating again this week. And again.
Did anybody else see “Sully” Sullenberger, the U.S. Airways pilot on 60 Minutes? Pretty amazing guy. You’d like to think that everytime you fly, there’s that kind of expertise on board. It could so easily have ended in disaster.

Love those hats!! I’ve got 2 scarfs done and thinking of switching to something else next. Having a ball knitting on Stonewall from knitspot. See you soon!!!
Pretty hats!
