I just won that book at a beekeeping meeting last month - just a matter of time until I work my way to it. She is a fabulous author. Should you get serious about starting with bees (which I think you should, now, dotage be dammed), let me know. I've been keeping them for years and love to help people get started. We have a hive at Mom and Dad's and they were sending us hourly reports on them when we first put them there. It's not nearly as hard as you think it might be AND you get honey at the end of the season.

As for dinner, I made an old standby of kung pao chicken with brown rice and topped with mango that was one day away from the compost bin. Got the recipe from a friend about 10 years ago and still make it frequently. Lots of sherry in the sauce, what's not to love?

Thanks for the Hubbell recommendation; I love well-written books about people doing stuff on their own. Gardening, beekeeping, self-sufficiency, the subject almost doesn't matter -- I like it all.

I am home alone tonight so dinner will be leftovers from the fridge -- maybe diced roast chicken from last week mixed with the leftover sauteed peppers from last night.
