As I mentioned before there’s been a stray cat prowling around our house for the last few weeks, marking his territory by spraying every door, shrub and flower pot.

Well he’s still here.

But the spraying is better.

As long as I don’t waste time bringing him food.

Since he’s completely black with only a few white hairs, he’s hard to photograph. Particularly through glass — he won’t let me near him.  Even when he can smell the food.

I wondered what kind of owner would let an unfixed cat roam and wasn’t convinced that he was a stray until last night. I went to the garage for something and found him sitting on my doorstep at 11 pm in 10 degree weather. He hadn’t shown up all day, so I had hoped that his owner was keeping him inside. Since he was out in such cold weather I have to assume he’s a stray and spent yesterday staying out of the snow and cold until his hunger got the best of him.

I couldn’t do anything about the cold — even if I could entice him into the garage, the marking would have been a nightmare. So I made sure he had a full belly and hoped he’d find shelter for the night.

This afternoon he was back and ate 4 huge bowls of wet and dry food, including food my cats sniff and leave, before he finally licked his whiskers and rolled away.

I’m not sure where this will end. For now I’ll just watch him eat.

It’s true that a hungry cat will eat anything.

I seem to be experiencing periodic outages on my blog. One minute it’s working, the next there’s a database error. I did get in and tinker under the hood this weekend but I don’t think it’s anything I’ve done. I ‘m going to blame it on my host provider because there have been other glitches over the past week. If it is me I should have it repaired by the week’s end since I’ve lined up someone to help me with upgrading and a few mods. Thanks for your patience.

So you’ve become a defacto member of SPOT (www.wcspot.org)! Whereas we attract dogs (me being a dog lover), you are attracting cats (being a cat lover). Let me recommend contacting a local rescue group (is there a feral cat one?) to trap the cat and get him neutered … otherwise statistics show 40+ cats being born this next year thanks to him. Then you can keep feeding him :-) I’d love to see the look on Gus’s face when he sees him outside!
