There’s some preening going on over here, shaking out of the feathers and fluffing up of the, er, fluff. I’m feeling all spiffy and new because I handed over the green stuff to have la blog upgraded, organized and straightened out to clean up the mess I’ve made of it in the last year. To mix my metaphors, it’s as good as taking all the linens out of the closet for spring cleaning, deciding to get rid of half of them and loving all the squared-away space you’ve created.
Poor guy had a time of it:
you’ve just got a lot of things in a lot of different places (your images are in at least three different locations) and it’s taking a while to track it all down and get it moved where it should be.
Never underestimate the ability of a newbie to Rube Goldberg a website. Hey, it worked, even if it didn’t have much of a structure.
Anyway, with our feathers all straightened out, on we go.

Our spate of springlike weather has failed us and the cats are crowding me out of bed at night to get the best spot on top of the electric blanket. Meanwhile, the black stray has apparently won the hearts of other homeowners who responded to a question I posted on the association website. While not explicitly stated, the sense of the e-mails was that turn the cat over to animal control might bring repercussions. Like, I might find a horse head in my bed one night. Although nobody volunteered to help improve his situation. Not their problem apparently.

Our town council voted to approve a smoking ban in public places this week, following much debate and strong opposition. There have been cries of government interference and threats that businesses would fold overnight if people weren’t allowed to pollute the air and contaminate others with second hand smoke. In the end the mayor had to break a deadlocked vote. I’m guessing he felt comfortable supporting it because he’s leaving office in a month. There are smoking bans in the cities around us, it just means we’re taking a while to catch up. As it is, the ban won’t take effect for another year, so we’ll be eating at home some more.

There’s been some job interviewing going on. The last position had 400 applicants, with 10 of us getting an interview. I’m up to my eyeballs with books on how to have a successful interview: Never talk trash about your former employer no matter how big a jerk he might have been; always be positive; be yourself (a contradiction right there); be ready to talk about successes and mistakes (what? me make a mistake? never); research the company but don’t waste all kinds of time on it; show your knowledge of the industry; ask insightful questions. Meanwhile, every newspaper I pick up, every magazine, every news program talks about how unemployment will get worse before it gets better. Le sigh.

I’m reading Tourist Season by Carl Hiaasen, one of the 100 Favorite Mysteries. Eh. Not loving it enough to go get any of his other books.

Why does it always amaze me that the best cure for the blues is getting off my butt. I know this, I know it works, but every time it’s a major revelation. I dragged out the vacuum today and tackled our closet shelves. Years of dust got sucked up and boxes of old clothes were sorted and given away. The only thing I couldn’t throw away was my wedding dress, although why I’m preserving it is a mystery. It certainly will never fit me again and why would I even want to wear something that I wore 25 years ago? The hanging clothes still need to be sorted, which can wait for the next day I’m feeling down. By the time warm weather rolls in for good, my attitude should be dandy and our house, like my blog, spiffy.

I used to be a big Carl Hiaasen fan, but every book follows the same storyline – it got frustrating. I do like his save the environment message.
Good luck with your blog redo! I did the same thing recently and it was well worth it!
I have enjoyed all the Carl Hiaasen books I have read, which is nearly all he has written. He does tend to have a standard plot line, but the humor and silly situations that he puts the characters in always keep me entertained. But different strokes, etc. Read what you like!
Love the blog redo as my name and email address now appear again automatically. Can’t say I’ve read Hiaasen but our book club has got me to read a variety of books – many of which I liked but now can’t remember their titles. Guess I need to make a list of 100 books I’ve read
I’ve wondered the same thing about my wedding dress and done the same thing – kept it. It’s raining here which is a blessing because we’re in a severe drought. Hope it continues!
