This was the sky over our house, looking west, when I headed out for my walk at 7:30 am. The clouds blew away mid-morning and we ended up with a beautiful early Spring day.

I tested the soil in my little patch of garden today, something I should have done years ago before planting it.
Ack. It’s so alkaline it’s a wonder anything flowers at all. It definitely needs amending but since it’s pretty much all planted with perennials all ready, I’m not sure how to do that. A trip to the nursery is on the to-do list for this week.

The Spring cleaning bug has morphed into a reorganization virus. I’m itching to throw out much of our “we might need this some day” stuff. I think some day has come and gone and the stuff is still here. I’m feeling ruthless and the cats and Jack are keeping their distance for fear they might end up out on the curb come Monday.

Beautiful sky! I became very unattached to things when I had a storage locker and the guy next to me didn’t pay – they broke open and auctioned the wrong locker. Mine. Sure, I got $ for the stuff, but none of it was replaceable. Year books and letter jackets, photos and some of my great grandmother’s furniture and quilts. Even her ooooold singer sewing machine – the one with the cast iron foot plate – that still worked.
I can pare down to the essentials if needed. Although space bags are wonderful.
Luckily I had the stash in and sucked down before Texas saw it. Let’s not even talk about once I started unpacking it.
I need to catch that Spring cleaning/reorganization bug!
Lovely sky!
I always feel the need to get a dumpster and clear the house out this time of year. One day I’ll do, too. *L*
You could mulch around the plants. That will help keep the weed down and the mulch will help the soil next time you dig.
I’ll bet there is something you can mix into the soil that will help the acidity. May need to mix it first and then work it into the soil.
I caught that bug too last week. 4 bags to the Rescue Mission, cupboards emptied and even the spice rack got an overall. Had spices there from Fred’s mother who’s been gone for 10 or 15 years!
Try adding composting to your list of things to try. Compost works wonders with plants! Or call your county extension agent – he/she might know.
The reorganizing bug will have to wait until mentoring sessions end in May … I’m just hoping to get my spring decorations out and my 2008 Christmas letter mailed before Easter!
