Thanks to kmkat for tagging me on this meme. It’s a life saver this weekend. I spent yesterday doing the thing in the last question and I’m pooped this morning. And besides everything else, I’m trying to come up with my entry for the “I is for….” and can’t take the pressure. Must go lie down.
What are your current obsessions?
Spinning, spindles, spinning wheels, and fiber. And of course knitting.
Which item from your wardrobe do you wear most often?
Sports bras. I have three: pink, yellow and kelly green. Since I don’t like green I don’t know how the last one got in my drawer, I must have been desperate. And sweat pants. I grumble when I have to put on real clothes. Yes, I’ve been out of work for a while.
What’s for dinner?
Last night’s dinner was homemade chili. It’s a little late in the year for chili but it sounded good. I’d give you my recipe but I don’t use one. Ground beef, onions, beans, tomatoes and open the cupboard and pull out some spicy spices. Combine and simmer. Chili. We added a salad with organic spring mix and radishes from the Farmer’s Market. And a crusty roll. Tonight, who knows? Maybe peanut butter.
What’s your greatest fear at the moment?
That I’ll be eating cat food when I’m 80. Of course, if I lose my mind at 79, it won’t really matter.
What are you listening to?
I just bought a stack of CDs because Borders had a clearance sale: 50% off, chickadees. There are a couple by Eric Clapton, the latest from BB King, oldies from Barbra Streisand, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, and Stevie Wonder and the first CD from Leona Lewis. The selection was getting a little picked over or I would have indulged in more. I never used to buy much music so I’m catching up with the artists I listened to in college plus some blues and R&B.
If you were a goddess what would you be?
But I am a goddess… (I can’t improve on kmkat’s answer.)
What are your favourite holiday spots?
The best vacations/holidays have been when we rented a cabin or house and parked our butts for a week or two. There were numerous trips to the Gunflint Trail in Minnesota for cross country skiing in winter or hiking and fishing in the summer. There was a condo in Hawaii for 10 days. There was the trip to Maine while Jack went to wood working school and I played. Location isn’t as important as not having to stay in a hotel, eat in restaurants every day and visit historic sites until my eyes bleed.
What are you reading right now?
Teach Yourself Visually Handspinning by Judith MacKenzie McCuin and Enough. True Measures of Money, Business and Life by John C. Bogle. And a couple of the Aunt Dimity mysteries that I just picked up at the library.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Dove Milk Chocolate Ice Cream Topping straight from the jar. Spoon and ice cream definitely optional.
Who or what makes you laugh?
I stop in my tracks for Victor Borge. I laugh every time I see his routines. RIP Victor.
What is your favorite spring thing to do?
Dig in the dirt and plant something. Seeds, flowers, veggies. Then ignore them the rest of the summer.
Where are you planning to travel next?
Iowa City and the Amana Colonies. Time for a check up of the husband’s fake ankle and then a little sightseeing. It’s been a while since we’ve been to the Colonies and it’s an easy side trip to make.
What is the best thing you ate or drank lately?
We went to lunch Friday at the Bristol Seafood Grill in Kansas City as a belated anniversary celebration. I had scallops with lemon risotto, shaved fennel salad, basil olive oil and some kind of balsamic reduction sauce. Yummy. And shared a piece of carrot cake for dessert.
When was the last time you were tipsy?
Wow, it’s been a while. Last September at Kim’s wedding. I seem to remember pinching someone’s butt (affectionately known in our family as a dog bite). And there was dancing, barefoot, with my brother. It was a fun weekend.
What is your favorite ever film?
Dirty Dancing. Hey, I like the music. And the dancing. And Patrick Swayze.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your children?
I knew there was something I forgot to do with my life.
What song can’t you get out of your head?
It’s all Jack’s fault. I only have to hear him hum this once and it’s stuck in my head for days.
What book do you know you should read but refuse to?
All the books about how bad a president George Bush was. They just make me angry and depressed that he was our president for 8 years.
What is your physical abnormality/abnormal physical ability?
Too many to list.
What is your favourite color?
Hot pink or yellow.
If you were a day of the week, which would you be?
Friday night with the whole weekend ahead of me.
What one household chore do you most hate to do on a beautiful spring day?
Replacing 20 feet of dryer vent pipe. It shouldn’t be such a big deal but trust me it is. Two people, 8 hours, short tempers, aching backs and sore necks. You’d think after doing it for the last 20 years, we’d be better at it. But sadly, some people never learn.

Eight hours?!
Y’all are lucky no one was killed.
I love Victor Borge — once took Smokey to see him live for a Valentine’s birthday surprise present.
Your food descriptions make me hungry…
I love Victor Borge. A date took me to see him in Syracuse a hundred years ago and I laughed so hard the tears washed away all my make-up. (Yeah I was 20 something, everyone wore make-up).
Great entry I really enjoyed reading both answers.
