It’s been hand-to-worm combat in the lettuce wars around here for the last couple of days and I have to admit I think it’s a draw. The little buggers are only nibbling on the green lettuce in passing, but they’ve devoured the red leaf lettuce right down to the nubbins. And then they eat the nubbins.
I was going to mix up a patch of this stuff but kept forgetting to go to the grocery store for a jalapeno pepper. Hey, we’re northerners, we don’t eat hot stuff in this house. In the end I decided it was overkill since the little bastards are easy to find and pick off the lettuce. I just have to suck it up and do it.
This has taught me I could never kill my own chickens like some people (technically Gayle hasn’t killed any chickens yet, but eventually…… ) I mean I picked off the first worm, went Ewww, gross! and threw it over the railing into the garden. Then did it again.
Yeah, the garden. Where the other lettuce is. Smack me upside the head.
Then I got my big girl panties on and drowned the rest of them in soapy water. That was yesterday. Today I just fed them to the insinkerator.
Bloodthirsty, yo.
Score one for me.
Here’s another score: the very first (and only) tomato from my patio farm. I was magnanimous and put it in Jack’s salad for dinner. There are more on their way.

I’m trying to finish watching the movie Becoming Jane. It’s taken me a couple days to get half way through it due to interruptions and I’d like to finish it tonight so I can send it back to Netflix. I really enjoy Anne Hathaway and need to put Rachel Getting Married in my queue. Have you seen it, is it as good as the reviews say?
Till tomorrow, chickadees.

You don’t have hot stuff in your house? *gasp* I grew up in PA, but my dad was of “the hotter the better” school. My mom was a wimp. Me? Jalapenos right out of the jar are yummmmmy! Enjoy the little victories!
You are so freakin’ adorable I’m going to overlook the no hot stuff business.
xo
“Big girl panties” always makes me chuckle. Go, you! Kill those little buggers! Just don’t use the chemicals.
oooh I like Becoming Jane! I hope you enjoyed it!
I hate killing those little buggers, mostly because touching them totally skeeves me out. Once they’re d.e.d. though I’m pretty happy! ;o)
