Gone to the dark side

Copper cloud

Two posts in a row about spinning; does that mean I’ve gone over to the dark side?

This is a coopworth/silk blend that I’ve been able to pre-draft and spin fine enough that it might actually qualify as lace weight even after plying, instead of swinging back and forth between fingering and lace weight.

I can spin about half an ounce a day before real life intrudes. Apparently I can’t spindle spin without trying to insert my left shoulder into my ear. Ow.

The Team Trainer recommends more frequent breaks, stretching and heat. I, on the other hand, recommend a judicious mixture of rum, mint and limes, applied internally.

Just to show that I haven’t completely given up on knitting, here’s the swatch of the merino yarn from my previous post.

Get your redhot merino here.

Definitely some thick and thin spots but it’ll make some funky fingerless mitts eventually. I started with size ones at the bottom, size two in the middle and size three on top. I’d use ones for the ribbing and two for the stockinette for the mitts.

Very soft, I’m wondering how long before it pills?

Also, drying a swatch on the cover of a gas grill as it preheats is not a good idea.

Ask me how I know.

Off to spin.

Muwahahahhh.

The copper is pretty! Yeah. Um. Are you impatient too? I learned a lesson (or 4) on unconventional drying methods already.

Happy Thursday and use the grill for meat!

    V. nice yarn! I’ll keep the do-not-dry-on-grill advice in mind :-)

    That’s lace weight!

I love that color! Isn’t spinning a silk blend amazing?! I may never go back now.

Nice looking swatch. Does your dryer have a rack? Heat with no movement. ;^)

I love the grill story as much as I love that coppery stuff.

Oh my goodness that is lovely fiber and spinning!
Who knew spinning was a dangerous sport?! ;D. Be well and enjoy your therapy!

That copper is just gorgeous! And I’m so impressed with the swatch – knitting with your own yarn… very pioneer woman!!

Love your swatch – the colors are gorgeous.
But I love that copper more! Will you have enough for a shawl?
And keep that shoulder out of your ear, there, missy!
