In memoriam
Walter Cronkite
I was ten when I saw Walter Cronkite lose his composure announcing the death of President John Kennedy. The idea that he would show emotion was nearly as unsettling as the tragedy in Dallas. All that weekend and through the funeral the next week, I remember him guiding the nation through the aftermath, a steady presence when the nation was devastated. You always knew you could trust him to tell the truth without personal bias or hidden agendas. There hasn’t been anybody his equal since the day he retired.
And that’s the way it was.

Well said.
Thank you for writing that; I remember him losing it, too. He was a good man.
I remember all of that and the horrible feeling of loss of the time – how he managed to chronicle all of it is amazing. At 92 it’s sad he’s gone but what a life to be celebrated. It’s rare to come across that kind of integrity and what an honor to have experienced it.
