We interrupt our regularly scheduled summer of heat and humidity for a weekend of balmy breezes and delicious temperatures. Being able to wiggle my toes without breaking into a sweat has had me zipping around doing odd chores that were put on hold when the temps hit 98 degree with 80% humidity.
I’ve been stealing as much time outdoors as I can. The flower pots needed a general clean up and fertilizing while the sweet autumn clematis needed to be coaxed to wind around the deck railing. I potted up a few root-bound plants that have been struggling in the heat and filled a bucket with weeds and clippings.
After that I took what I thought would be a quick trip through the garden and ended up attacking the weeds that have gone wild while my back was turned.
I barely made a dent before I was driven out of the garden by this little thing.
This is either mom or dad wren who was taking great exception to my being around their home (never mind that I’m the landlord). Both parents were in constant motion delivering bugs to a flock of hungry babies in the bird house Jack made years ago. The parents were OK with my presence as long as I was at least 20 feet away. Any closer and they would interrupt their delivery of insect delicacies to sit in the trees and chatter at me.
Since I can tell when I’m not wanted, I did what weeding I could around the edges of the garden and then decided the rest of the gardening could wait another day. I retired to the deck to spin and knit — after I cleaned all the bird feeders, washed the car windows and brushed both cats.
Tour de Fleece 2009
Nothing exciting to see here, move along now. Pictures next time of some CVM roving and a little swatch. Maybe.

How funny are those fierce little birds! Your efforts inspire to spend a little time with my herb garden today. Maybe.
Happy Sunday!
Now I’m thinking I got off easy when that scrub jay yelled at me the other morning. Jeez…
How much humidity?! How do live with that. Anything over 20% and I need lie-down.
Aw, how nice of you not to bother the wren parents and babies. Just because it gave you an excuse to spin and knit…
