Garden fiber

cvm5This is some CVM fiber that I spun this week as part of Tour de Fleece. CVM stands for California Variegated Mutant  which is a rare breed of American sheep. The fiber was purchased at the last moment at the Iowa Sheep and Wool Festival after I thought I was done for the day. It’s a soft fiber, looks a lot like Shetland, knits and spins very well. I spun it lace weight, made a 2-ply yarn and then did a lace swatch on size 2 (or 3?) needles. It held the lace pattern better than I thought it would.

I’d like to experiment with it more after I get done sampling some other fibers.

Woot – tomorrow I get to spend the day in a spinning class. It includes both spindle and wheel work and I’m hoping I can try out a bunch of different wheels. I’ve been looking forward to this for a while, just to get some of my basic questions answered.

Just feeding the current obsession.

Summer is zooming by so fast, I don’t understand where all the time goes. The garden is thriving, still getting tomatoes and OMG the cucumbers just don’t end. The lettuce has turned bitter, even though it still looks attractive. I pulled off a leaf the other day and chewed it. Bleah.

There’s been great progress on the porch rocker; I owe you an update. But it’s getting late and I’ve got cats to wrangle, bird feeders to bring in (the raccoons are a real nuisance this summer), and preparations to make for an early start tomorrow.

Before I forget: vodka, cranberry juice and lime make the best summer drink.

Back soon!

Don’t forget, it’s low in calories and packs in some good vitamins too. :D

I’ll trade your coons for my squirrels.

Beautifully spun fiber and a great place to photograph it! I fell out of the race and just watched a bit from the side lines. You all did such good work.

Great photos! Can you drink and spin? I’m not good for much after half-glass of wine :-)
