So yesterday’s spinning class was a blast. Eight of us, all with different wheels, all beginners and one poor teacher. She declared the class a success because nobody cried. It was pretty evenly divided between people who had never touched a wheel or a spindle before and others who had either had a class before or knew how to spindle spin. The level of frustration pretty much depended upon your previous experience.
I got my yarn tangled around the flyer a couple times and put the bobbin in backwards once. After switching wheels with someone else I noticed that as she was spinning on “my wheel”, one of my stored bobbins was unwinding onto the upright. Holy confusion Batman. All was saved in the end but I was afraid I’d have to kill her. And she seemed like such a nice person too.
And I only broke one wheel (a Kromski Symphony).
I didn’t have to buy it.
Darn.
I did make yarn, but apparently have twist issues since the plying didn’t go well. Lots of breakage which I just ignored and kept overlapping the broken ply with the good one and kept right on treadling. I also tried navajo plying my remaining singles but there I had the opposite problem: too much twist. By that time it was getting late and I needed time to do some fiber-stash-enhancing before the store closed so I just stuffed it all away to think about another day.
Can someone explain to me how come sitting in a class just fiddling with fiber can leave you exhausted at the end of the day? I was so tired driving home that I actually obeyed the speed limit. Unheard of.
Sunday supper
Oh hell I don’t know. We’re trying to get to 4000 comments on the Team Crankypants thread in the Tour de Fleece. Today’s the last day and we need 500, 400, 300 more comments. Why yes we do discuss spinning. Occasionally.

Yeah, I think we blew away the 4000. Wanna help us get to 5000
I agree that sitting is exhausting. I always feel that way after bus driving inservice but, of course, that’s boring too. Good thing you didn’t kill anyone.
You have been way too busy over here…
I hope you made your goal. Learning is exhausting and your body tenses up when you’re spinning something new, too. Practice NP and you’ll become better at it. Practice is the only way to learn spinning techniques and it’s fun, too!
I agree with Margene.
4k seems a long time ago now. *L*
