Since our sky today is gloomy and overcast, I’m giving you this beautimous sky from a few weeks ago at Powell Gardens. Not a cloud to be seen.
Anybody know what this plant is? It was in a huge pot, probably 3 feet tall and the plant itself was over 5 feet tall. It was situated on the patio and I’m assuming it’s a tropical that they bring in for the winter but I could be wrong. It was very striking with its big rubbery leaves and this weird fruit? blossom?
I’m already falling behind schedule in getting the Labyrinth Shawl finished before the one-year deadline. Yesterday I knit one measly row instead of the 14 my calculations said I need to do. Sometimes life just gets in the way of all my fun.
Bummer.
Have a good one chickadees.

Very cool photo! No clue what the plant is, sadly.
You just had to go out and get a life, didn’t you? /sigh
xo
Lovely sky. I’ve *seen* that plant before but don’t know if I knew what it was then….I really don’t now. Reminds me of a old illustration, interesting!
Happy Saturday!
Looks like a magnolia tree, Diane. Nice photo. That seedpod looks like it should turn into a pineapple, but I guess besides glossy leaves, magnificent flowers, and interesting seedpods, that would be asking too much of this tree.
Beautiful sky! I think the plant in the photo is a rubber tree plant and the “pod” may be a flower bud.

No idea about the plant, but that sky is so blue it almost looks fake! Wow!
Oyes. I don’t know. But are you going back to see if it blooms.+
It’s definitely a magnolia! The bloom will be a huge white flower with a wonderful citrus-scent.
Re-posting. My comment got eaten.
Elizabeth is right! It is a Magnolia grandiflora (Southern magnolia). Click the link below- scroll down for the conelike fruit:
