ECF, the tired edition

alstromeria

I don’t know what I’m going to do for blog photos this winter without the garden.

This week has pretty well kicked my butt off and tossed it in a corner. Who knew that having to put together a morning routine that allows for all the chores to get done and still get me  to work 10 minutes early would tax my abilities.

It’s mostly because I’ve gotten into the habit of staying up late so my body doesn’t want to fall asleep at the new earlier bedtime. When the alarm goes off in the morning, the brain is still going “WTF is that?” even after 5 days. I expect it will get easier next week.

If not, you all can send me toothpicks to prop open my eyes for my birthday.

Yep, I get cake next week. I don’t think we’ll do much more than that and dinner out. I already bought myself a present and it wasn’t even fiber related.

I’ve been trying to debone trout that my neighbor gives us with a really crappy knife and got fed up after the last shredding session. A nice German deboning knife has taken its place with its brethern.  I  haven’t tried it yet but I expect neatly filleted trout and deboned chicken to rule my future.

There’s other stuff going on, including a shawl that’s finally finished after a year, but that will have to wait. Tick tock.

I’ve seen versions of this quote attributed to Barbara Walker at the Sock Summit on a couple of sites, most recently from Knitter’s Review. It pretty well sums up why I knit and spin.

Just as the bird’s wing evolved to fly, the human hand evolved to manipulate. An idle hand is not a happy hand. We really need to use our hands; they’re not happy if they’re not doing something. – Barbara Walker, Sock Summit, 2009

BW is absolutely right. I explain my knitting addition as “finger candy.”

Definitely give it another week or two and it will be okay. Make an effort to go to sleep earlier tho’ :D

Wonderful quote and so true! Good luck with the early rising. It’ll sort itself out with time. Beautiful Alstroemeria btw. I’ve never tried growing it though.

very pretty flowers! I hear you on the dearth of ECF during the winter…I’m usually completely panicked by Thanksgiving and have to resort to fuzzy pictures of twinkly lights. ;op

    What a great quote!
