Carrie and Jack and I started our Thanksgiving with breakfast out and a walk in the woods at Weston Bend State Park. A sunny but cold morning. We met many like-minded walkers and runners getting in an hour of exercise before the onslaught of food and football. A smiling beagle puppy was happy to run and greet everybody she met, perfectly behaved off leash. A white Shar Pei, not very wrinkly at all, said a more reserved hello. An older black lab mix named Abby, gamely trying to keep up with her family on legs that didn’t want to bend so easily any more, didn’t have much time to spare for us. Good will, both human and canine, was all around.
Our feast will be low key. No turkey this year for no other reason than that I didn’t feel like cooking one. There are cornish game hens ready to go into the oven and I’ll cook up some fancy rice and maybe a few peas. Cranberry sauce to give a nod to tradition. Take your pick of dessert: pecan pie, banana pecan cream pie, chocolate cake, oatmeal cookies, gingersnaps. The pumpkin pie was finished off yesterday.
I’m thankful for all this: a roof over my head, good health for Jack and my family, food in the cupboard, friends, sunshine and fresh air. All the rest is just gravy.
And that’s good enough for me.

Beautiful photos, Diane. I hope your Thanksgiving day was lovely! Your festive dinner fare makes my mouth water, even today.
Sounds like a perfect day!
We had a great holiday – the family gathered for the feast at Madman’s grandmother’s house. His family is always a hoot – lots of laughter and fun.
