Every year our little Knitting in the Neighborhood group abandons its straight-back chairs at Borders to sit our tushes down for an evening of drinks, food and laughter at our holiday party.
Frankie pulls it all together and as always did a marvelous job finding a restaurant that could handle a bunch of noisy knitters in a private room. Even though we left Borders behind, we brought a little bit of what makes the bookstore so welcoming. Pam, who takes such good care of us each week, took the night off from work and joined our celebration.
This year’s party was also a celebration of a year-long charity knitting drive that Kathy organized. All those presents up above? Those were raffle prizes Kathy put together, each hand-knit item earning a raffle chance. Since January, 24 knitters made 150 hats, scarves, mittens and a couple of sweaters in all sizes and colors. These will go to the at-risk children and their families being served by Gillis House. You wouldn’t believe what nice gifts they were. Hand dyed sock and lace weight yarn. Knitting books. Yarn bags. A sweater’s worth of yarn. Stitch markers and notion bags. All beautifully presented.
As the person who knit the most items (19!!) Stephanie won the grand prize of a basket of goodies as well as this really hot calendar of men and yarn from Wollmeise. The calendar got passed around so everybody could check out their favorite month and give their opinion on which guy had the best ….yarn.
Rebecca was delighted with a sweater’s worth of yarn.
Leslie’s all set for knitting socks.
Susan picked one of several Namaste Knit Tubes that came packed with skeins of lovely hand-dyed yarn.
Angela and Chris finally got their chance to check out the calendar.
A good time and good deeds all at the same time. Always fun.
(I knit 7 hats. I’ll try to remember to post them this week.)

That really looks like fun, what a great group to have to knit with.
We had such a grand time and I was so proud of what our group accomplished this year.
What fun! Looks like a great group! And hurrah for all the hand-knit donations.
That sounds (and looks) like so much fun! I’m definitely suggesting that my guild do something like this next year. We typically have a scarf or bag swap or something like that, but it would be so much nicer to knit for charity and have donated prizes.
What a great group!
Wow! What a great group! Looks like you all have a wonderful time.
What fun and a lovely group of knitters!!!
