Helloooo gorgeous

amayrllis

It continues gray and gloomy around here at least in the weather area. Snow melt has proceeded to the point that we’re left with dirty piles of gray stuff and mud in the garden, as evidenced by the tracks across the carpet made by the boy cat’s feet.

Thanks to the presence of Vera however, the atmosphere in the house is a tiny bit more colorful. She started growing just a week before Christmas and matured at a early age. Despite my best efforts to rotate her pot every day, her stem has taken a decided list to starboard. Or port depending upon where you’re standing.

It’s the first time in ages that I’ve grown an amaryllis bulb and I’ve been making plans to keep the bulb going for next year. Feel free to take bets on whether I do it. Once they get fussy, I typically throw house plants away. No patience, no room and not enough interest to keep them going.

Yes, I’m mean.

I’m taking the opportunity of a little alone time tonight to get some stash-diving done. I have junk spread all over the place and had best get to it before it’s all out of control.

Vera is a beauty! I really nee to go out and get myself one. I used to have them.

Find anything fun in the stash?

Ooh, a sight for sore eyes. It’s still the frozen tundra here in MN. If it weren’t for the fir trees and the recycling bins, I wouldn’t see a bit of green at all.

Have you ever read Diary of a Provincial Lady by E. M. Delafield? It’s one of my favorites. Among other things, she has a continuing saga about forcing bulbs indoors.

Great looking flower (and photo). If you get tired of it, ship it here and we will kill it for you like we’ve done with most of our house plants :-) Gus and Cleo leaving the yarn alone?

    What a beauty!

I also had to herd scattered stash and accessories that had wandered too far, and in too great of quantities to be ignored any longer. I hope your venture went well.

Ohhhhhh so pretty. My mom has grown them quite a few times, but i’ve never tried. I’m curious what you do to make them bloom again next year.

At my old house I had a pair of lovely ferns in the dining room, but the moment they started to look like poop, I threw them out in the winter and committed herbicide, so i can relate to tossing them when they start to require too much attention!

Very pretty and a lovely relief from Winter. My bulb is sticking the stalk up but no flower yet. Any luck with the stash?

Your Vera is indeed gorgeous! So are your photos of her.

I love amaryllis, but this year could not be arsed to move Susan inside. Maybe she’ll bloom in the spring. *L*

    xo

Lovely. Simply lovely. I need flowers in here.

Although it is warm enough today to have the windows open. :D

Gorgeous photos! I had one that I kept going for three years. After that, it didn’t flower and while the 2 foot leaves were lovely, Ian talked me into throwing it out. They are worth the small effort to light up our lives.

Lovely photos. The colors are luscious and pin-sharp on the anthers. When the flowers are gone, you’ll still have the photos to brighten another day!
