| What do you do when you’re away from home, staying in a dreary residential hotel and you need to entertain a group? For various reasons you don’t want to meet at a restaurant and the kitchen isn’t really intended for cooking. Here’s all you need for a quick, low-stress get-together.
First, find a good supermarket and head to the deli section. Fill your shopping cart like so: |
|
| 1. Start with some spring flowers to brighten up a dreary day. | ![]() |
| 2. Add some good Czech beer. | ![]() |
| 3. Throw in a couple rotisserie chickens. Warm them up in the microwave and carve for easy eating. Set aside the wings and drumsticks for those so inclined. | ![]() |
| 4. Don’t forget salads to go with the birds; cole slaw and potato salad are always good. I was hoping for baked beans but there were none to be had. | ![]() |
| 5. Don’t forget dessert….raspberry rhubarb pie (taste-tested before the guests arrived). Throw in some chocolate chip cookies for good measure | ![]() |
| 6. Top it off with a darling baby boy sporting a hand knit sweater that almost fits. (Double points to the parents for bringing the sweater just so the knitter can see how it fits AND triple points for remembering to bring the toys that were part of the gift, to show how well-used/well-loved they are. Both parents mentioned how pleased they were with the sweater. Guess who’s going to get something hand knit again?) | |

~It’s good to be home after last week’s long and trying trip. There’s no fun to report, like a visit to a new yarn shop, since we spent most of the week in doctors’ offices and the rest of the time fulfilling social obligations. However, winter’s hibernation is over and suddenly I have more than I can handle on my plate. And I came home to some lovely goodies in the mail which I’ll post about next time. |

What a cutie – the sweater is great on him! Looks like you put on a great spread under difficult circumstances – were you able to send leftovers home with your guests?
Sounds like you made it work! Cute boy and wonderful sweater. Isn’t it awesome when muggles are grateful recipients of your handknits?
You realize, your dinner is all colour coordinated? heh. looks good :^)
Little Jack… what a beautiful boy. what big blue eyes. what a funny little expression. Gorgeous little sweater.
When life gives you lemons … have a get-together in a hotel!
And Jack is a cutie! Kudos to parents for remembering the sweater and toys, and coming after naptime so he wasn’t cranky (hopefully
What a beautiful little guy. And, the sweater is perfect growing into size. He doesn’t look like he trusts anybody, though;-D How clever of you to come up with that spread. I would have had to buy a darned knife! BTW, welcome home!
Thank goodness you’re home! How much did you eat on the drive back? ;^)
Little Jack is adorable and will grow into that sweater.
xo
What a great looking sweater and it goes so well with those big blue eyes. He’ll grow into the sweater, remember all those extra long jeans we had to wear so that we “could grow into them”? Dinner looks pretty good I may have to try that.
With daffodils on the table, how could the meal be anything less than fabulous?
Sweet sweater!
What a fun gathering! The sweater looks great and it is so wonderful that he still has more wearing time with it. Knitting for babies is great, but sometimes they do not get to wear the knit for very long.
