It’s dirt day!

peafirst

Peas have sprouted in the deck box! Woo!

There’s no spinning and very little knitting going on, every spare moment is spent either in the house  garden or up at the community garden. Or else I’m reading about gardening or surfing the net looking for plants, products or seeds. Spring fever has mellowed under the load of work (fun but work).

Today we get the compost delivery for the raised beds and the plots. We have two vans loaded with wheelbarrows and tools. The raised beds are sitting on the driveway, waiting for delivery. We’ll make one trip to deliver tools and come back for the beds once the compost people have dumped our dirt. The waiting will be over and we can actually put some seeds/plants in the ground.

We haven’t just been standing around waiting for the compost. My friend and partner-in-the-garden E and I spent two days digging up clumps of sod from the plots. You can see the difference below. The smooth mostly brown section of the plot has been worked, the other part that looks like patchy lawn still has to be tackled. Good news is that there’s lots of earthworm activity, so the soil appears to be pretty healthy.

Whoops! Gotta go, the dirt’s here!

ETA: The rain arrived along with the dirt. Grump.

    Yay!

I love those little pea fingers reaching for something to hold onto. I’m sorry about the rain, but it’s good for the garden!

The downside of gardening. Rain. But, we all need it bad right now.

Madman saw your pea photo from across the room. “Damn!” he said. “Who’s got peas that tall?!?”
He felt better when I told him where you lived…

Watching peas grow entertains me more than I can say.
