Whatever these are, I imagine the birds finding them in the middle of winter and marveling at the feast.
I’ve cleaned the bird feeders after their summer use, bought new seed for the fall and opened the all-you-can-eat buffet for feathered patrons only in its normal location.
And waited.
For nothing.

Not a cardinal.

It’s been a great year for goldfinches at the feeder. While these 4 were pigging out there were another 3 or 4 zooming around angling for their share.
