Proof that not all of the bugs are in the garden these days.
She followed me home, can I keep her?
I finally took the plunge and bought a spinning wheel. It wasn’t the one I thought I was going to buy, and it wasn’t the one that I really wanted but the Ladybug will [...]

In Tour de Fleece news, I’m still madly spinning, just not posting my progress. This is the 2-ounce bump of cormo from Strawberry Moon Fibers that I bought at Shepherd’s Harvest in Lake Elmo, MN in early May.
The spinning is rustic at best, veering from fingering to worsted weight and the plying is beginner’s stuff. [...]

Just barely still June, but it counts. Holy moley the year is half gone.
~
Now that the veggie garden is planted and it’s mostly maintenance chores, I’ve spent the last week pulling weeds and spreading mulch in the flower garden around the house. I ran out of mulch before I ran out of garden. When I [...]

Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.

It’s blueberry season here and we went picking last week. As much as I like strawberries, I like blueberries even more. I gladly gave away many of the strawberries we picked earlier this year but have been jealously hoarding the blues. It’s so bad that I actually bought raspberries and peaches for Jack’s breakfast so [...]

Two posts in a row about spinning; does that mean I’ve gone over to the dark side?
This is a coopworth/silk blend that I’ve been able to pre-draft and spin fine enough that it might actually qualify as lace weight even after plying, instead of swinging back and forth between fingering and lace weight.
I can spin [...]

This little girl (boy?) is a Navajo Churro lamb. I wanted her for a pet but ended up with some of her wool instead.
Where did I find her? At the Iowa Sheep and Wool Festival. One of my sisters and I spent the day wandering around there. We’re home now but too pooped to provide [...]

but not a drop spindle to buy.
As I alluded to in my earlier post, I’m in the grip of a new obsession. At Knitting in the Neighborhood Tuesday night Deb gave me a lesson in spinning with a drop spindle and I’ve been practicing with my Louet spindle ever since. I got this as part [...]
